[Love Fulfills the Law] Let no debt remain outstanding, except the continuing debt to love one another, for whoever loves others has fulfilled the law.

Romans 13:8 (NIV)

From today's verse, we glean an essential truth – a continuous debt we owe to each other, the debt of love.

This concept may at first seem unsettling – bringing up images of endless obligation or servitude. But in reality, it paints an image of a vibrant, life-giving cycle. It is a joyful duty, not burdensome, for it springs from the heart transformed by Christ’s love.God does not command us to 'repay' His love, but He invites us to 'replay' His love to others. By doing so, He knows we reflect our true nature, the very essence of His character, Love, that He has implanted in us. When we love genuinely and selflessly, we manifest the character of our heavenly Father.

Yet, this debt of love is only possible because of the immeasurable, overwhelming debt that Jesus paid on the Cross. Remember, we owe no person anything but to love, and we can only do this effectively if we have first experienced God's unfathomable love.
